Since AI was developed, many controversial issues remain unresolved. The current situation is perhaps comparable to the early days of Photoshop, when we were first able to modify images—even directly from the internet—as we pleased. (Some may remember ;-)…)
Now, general access to virtual material via AI has become infinitely easier, which I also view very critically. Is responsible use of AI even possible?
As an artist, I am too curious about the possibilities and am now trying to find a very conscious and sensitive way of using this technology.
I have started to use my OWN objects, graphics, and photos as a starting point and have formulated the prompts with very few words. Prompts such as “create in the style of” do not interest me. It is important to me that the source material is produced or provided by myself (sometimes also by colleagues or freely available online stock files) – this also includes photos of a specific situation that I need for an animation idea.
For sounds, I look for freesound clips or import them directly from the video apps I use. I create many of them myself, too.
I am particularly interested in the coincidences and small errors that I cannot/do not want to influence, as these unpredictable moments also correspond to my artistic way of working and thinking. Some of the results are even quite far removed from my original idea.
I would not describe these clips as independent works, but rather as virtual experiments with uncertain outcomes. Digital surrealism might be a nice description for this process.
AI has now become another tool in my toolbox.
I collect these clips on my Instagram account: @theanalogueinternet
